Keeping Safe in Public – Tips for Women on Self Defense

Unfortunately today, being assaulted by a sexual predator is something that can happen to any woman. Knowing what to do in case you’re ever attacked can be the difference between life and death, and it’s more important now than ever that you learn some key tips for escaping a predator’s grasp. Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do to fight back and get away from an attacker. Our goal here is to keep in mind that you’re not out to kill him, just to find a moment that you can get away and find help.

The first thing you should do is take steps to make sure no guy ever even gets his hands on you. Always make sure that you are completely aware of your surroundings. Pay attention. You never want to be alone, but if you absolutely have to be, stay in well-lit areas and well-populated areas. Be on the lookout for anyone who looks creepy or suspicious. Also, a good way to help deter men who are looking for prey is to appear calm, confident, and strong. Remember, you don’t want to look like a victim. If you seem frightened, confused, or lost, a predator is much more likely to choose you, since you appear to be an easier target.

When parking your vehicle, there are also some key ideas to keep in mind. When parking your car at night, make sure to always park near a bright light source and as close to a building as possible. Never park anywhere hidden, dark or shady. – A good little self-defense tip is to keep the sharp end of your key protruding from your fingers. This may not be the most powerful weapon out there, but it’s better than nothing, and can be good for a quick jab to the eye in case you are ever assaulted. Also make sure to never park next to or walk alongside any vehicle with sliding doors. – These doors make it much easier to grab a person and not be noticed.

Now let’s create a hypothetical situation here: You are in a public place, and a man has jumped you. He’s got some form of weapon pressed into your back, and is threatening to kill you if you don’t leave somewhere with him. – The action you take here is absolutely of utmost importance. Never, ever let a predator get you to another location. Let’s face it: If the man is really that willing to kill you there in public, once he gets you somewhere else, your chances are that much lower. Instead of complying to his demands, scream, kick, make absolutely as much noise and commotion as possible. Your attacker is already going to be on edge, because of course he does not want to be caught, and once he realizes that you’re not about to be taken without a fight, there’s a fairly decent chance that he’ll run off and try to flee.

Instead of fleeing, however, there is always a chance that he may grab you and try to either pull you away or attempt to force you inside of a vehicle to drive you away. You can’t let this happen, and although he’s probably physically more powerful than you, you have a lot of options when it comes to defending yourself. Your goal is cause him enough pain or to shock him hard enough to let you go, giving you an opportunity to escape. There are actually a few neat little tricks that are designed for women who are facing assailants larger than themselves, and if you practice and memorize them, they may just save your life. The first is a move called the Doorknob, named so because you are going to grab an extremity such as an ear or nose and twist it like you would a doorknob. Twist hard, as though you were trying to rip it off. You can also make a “sneezing†motion, where you emulate a sneeze and deliver a powerful head-butt to your attacker’s face. You can also attempt to jam your fingers into his eyes. – Nobody likes to have anyone or anything mess with their eyes! If you do one of these, it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to keep a grasp on you, and you should be able to get away.

It’s more important now than ever to make sure you have a good plan in case somebody ever tries to hurt you. – If you are ever attacked by a predator, try to keep from panicking, and instead focus on trying your very hardest to find that moment that you can escape. – Make a commotion and a fuss, and fight as hard as you can. – By keeping a good head on your shoulders and staying on your guard, your chances of surviving an assault are much higher.
