Charlotte

Why Charlotte Nc?

Why Charlotte?

If you’re facing a move to North Carolina, particularly the south-central portion of the state, you may find that Charlotte has many of the attractive features you look for in a new home. Whether you are moving to be closer to family, for work or just a new start, North Carolina’s largest city is also one of its most eclectic. From the primarily business district known as Uptown to the arts district around North Davidson Street, known as NoDa to locals, Charlotte has a little something for everyone.

Before moving to a new city, it is important to investigate the local economy, school districts and property values. Charlotte is home to several of the nation’s largest banking centers, making it one of the United States’ key financial hubs. Several Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Charlotte, including Wachovia, Goodrich and Duke Energy, among many others. With numbers like these, if you are not already moving to Charlotte for work, maybe you should. Charlotte’s unemployment rate of 3.9% is below the national average of 4.6% and the average household income of nearly $55k beats the national average by over $10,000.

Of course what you are going to be primarily interested in when considering Charlotte is its real estate. The majority of the houses in Charlotte are in the price range of $100,000 to $300,000. This doesn’t exactly give you a very good indication of how it stacks up to the rest of the country unless you can see the homes for yourself which is why you should take some time to visit and decide if it is what you are looking for. However you may be pleasantly surprised to find that Charlotte is one of the less expensive cities in the United States for housing. This does not, however, detract the city’s appeal.

There are more than thirty neighborhoods and areas of Charlotte to choose from when deciding where you want to live. That does not include the hundreds of subdivisions, just the major areas. Meyers Park is one of the most notable areas of Charlotte and is home to many of the more prominent members of society. Most average working-class homeowners—probably like yourself—will not be able to afford a home here anytime soon, but it is fun to look. You can take a walking tour of the upscale Charlotte neighborhood and see places like Duke Mansion and E.C. Marshall House, among others.

Just south of Uptown Charlotte is a charming historic neighborhood known as Dilworth. Anyone who loves history and the buildings it happened among will find Dilworth breathtaking, but don’t let it’s quaintness fool you. Dilworth is also home to Charlotte’s largest hospital, Carolina’s Medical Center, which happens to boast the area’s only level one trauma center. This can be a very attractive resource to anyone with children that are constantly getting hurt. It is really a comforting thought to anyone at all, with or without accident-prone youngsters.

Charlotte is one of the most attractive and growing cities in the Southeastern United States. Because the largest demographic is made up of young professionals between the ages of 25 and 30, it is an excellent place to start if you are just out of college and beginning your life in the real world. It also has an excellent school system which makes it attractive for families with children or planning to have them. You are almost certain to find a home that suits your needs in one of the many neighborhoods of Charlotte so take a trip and check it out. You might be surprised by what this “Little Southern Town” has to offer.

What are Charlotte Becker prints worth or how can I find out?

I am unfamiliar with art and bought a picture at a sale really cheap, but found a 1945 print by Charlotte Becker behind it. I have searched ebay and yahoo and only found other prints of hers, but cannot find this one online anywhere. Any good places to find out?

A lot depends on if you should happen to have a signed print or a lithograph. I n that case, that would increase the value of your piece.
If you have a vintage print, which is what I suspect from what you have written, then I do not believe that the value would be more than $40,00.
If you enjoy the artwork and you got in for cheap then enjoy your great find.
Here are some sites for you to look through to help you determine the value of your vintage print.
you can contact many of the dealers listed below for information on the exact print that you have.

5 Steps Closer to the Real Cuba in Havana

Venture in the Historical Centre of Old Havana

La Habana Vieja is the most popular area, and when you'll see its fabulous architecture, you'll know why. Heavily influenced by the 400-year-long colonial period, the heart of the city is a classified World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and its magnificent buildings truly reflect the many cultural influences that have polished the town over the years. Visiting Habana Vieja is an unmissable stop in every Havana holiday, and a good location to set base - choose your Havana hotel here if you're looking to find the "Real Cuba" and fully experience the country's cultural heritage.

Step Back in Time in Calle Obispo

If you choose a holiday in Havana to experience Cuba's unique retro vibe, Calle Obispo will help you do just that. Bustling with history and entertainment, the street is especially alive at night with locals and tourists gathering in its many restaurants. With a mixture of Cuban Baroque and Art Nouveau Eclectic, the buildings that line the Calle Obispo are full of charm. It's no surprise many popular Havana hotels were established in the street.

Take it Easy in Plaza de Armas

For a real slice of Cuban life be sure to visit the Plaza de Armas in Havana. Close to Havana Cathedral and the sea, the large park has been a favourite amongst locals for hundreds of years - whether it's to stroll, sit, or watch the activity of the plaza unfold before their eyes.

Reminiscent of times past, gas lamps light the park at night - meaning that the central gathering spot is full of life at any time of the day. An ambitious restoration project gave the Baroque buildings surrounding the park a second youth, and Havana hotels can now be found in impressive colonial mansions here.

Look over the Town with El Cristo de La Habana

Little-known to tourists, an imposing statue of Christ stands in the harbour of Havana. Similar to Rio de Janeiro's famous Cristo del Corcovado, El Cristo de La Habana stands on the other side of the bay, blessing the city and incoming ships. The white marble statue is impressive in itself and well worth a visit. But visitors should also bear in mind that its prime location at the top of a hill makes it an ideal spot to view a large part of the city - and a great place to take pictures for their Havana holiday album.

Marvel at the Callejón de Hamel

An amazing visual spectacle, the Callejón de Hamel is a unique art project started back in 1990. The cultural platform within the community started with a mural celebrating Afro-Cuban culture. Today, it is a mix of shrines, sculptures and murals bursting with colours and originality. Make sure to stop here during your Havana holiday and absorb the breath-taking sights and energy of the place. A rumba session is also held there every Sunday afternoon.

What is the cheapest way to fly to Paris from the US?

I am planning a trip to visit my boyfriend in Paris, France this summer in July--to the end of August. I am very flexible with the dates and times I fly (any, basically). Any tips on how to get the cheapest flight possible would be great! Any tips about traveling to Paris, France would also be appreciated. :)

July to August and cheap do not match. That is high season. Go to a travel agent specialised in flights and have them ring you up when they see any hot deals. Also sign up for email alerts from airlines. Look for flights from big airports (like New York, Chicago, Miami). Book your ticket soon, don't wait until late June or July.

Tips about travelling to France - pack light and take a good guidebook. Rick Steves, Let's Go, Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are all good for independent travel on a budget.

Bring at least 50 EUR (75 USD) for every day of travel.

what is the best holiday destination in Spain?

i want to go to spain in summer holidays, just dont know much about spain and the best places to go.

It depends on your age and what kind of holiday are you looking for. Young people like to go to Ibiza(alcohol, drugs and sex),but it is overcrowded, you go to the beach and you have to lay your towel on top of another person, food, drinks and discos are sooooo expensive...Another place people go is Benidorm,in the costa blanca. If you want beach pretty much all locations are good, but if you choose the northern ones(galicia,asturias,cantabria...)you have more probability of rain,BUT the sightseeing all green and mountains are so pretty. If you are looking more for a cultural trip, everybody goes to Barcelona, but I personally recommend Granada, it is so beautiful, and there you can enjoy also good food, and flamenco shows, and the people. You could also go to Cuenca, that´s where I am from,it is so pretty, but don´t stay too many days.Toledo is so pretty too.If you want to visit Madrid august is the best time because is less crowded. I would go also to Valencia, its a big city but not huge, you have beach, and you have the City of Arts and Sciences, awesome architecture. Another very good option is the canary islands,if you go to Tenerife island, make sure you go to the north, puerto de la cruz, then rent a car and go all over to see the volcan,to swim in the ocean...Check all the places I told you online, google them, see the pics and try to decide, there is too much to do in Spain!!

Santa Cruz Architectural Styles

California's Santa Cruz Architectural Styles have become historical icons, which the area proudly preserves with a great deal of care. There have been many eras that have left an indelible mark behind on the buildings, homes, and structures around the city. A little flavor of all the eras remains as an undeniable element of the city's long and varied history.

Santa Cruz, CA was established largely for the sake of a Franciscan Mission and a Spanish garrison. The mission was built in 1791 and the garrison was erected in 1793. The Franciscan Mission was relocated to the Mission Hill area where it still stands today due to flooding issues precipitated by the San Lorenzo River. The founders of the mission fashioned it in a baroque manner as they were accustomed to. It was constructed with the plaza as its central focus forming almost a triplex around the plaza. The style heralds to those seen around Mexico and Spain. The mission is basically an adobe construction with deep layers of wall in the interior. This simplistic design was adopted due to the utilization of Indian laborers lacking extensive construction knowledge. Decorative bell towers and deep piers surround the structure to present day.

Some of the earliest structures to be erected throughout Santa Cruz were home constructed in a non-decorative, rectangular shape. Wooden boards were used to side these basic homes of the area. They were very popular around the Pioneer age dating back as far as 1850. Sylvar Street still has a house from this time period that stands as an example of the architectural era.

From 1850-1890 homes and office building went through many transitions and Santa Cruz Architectural Styles evolved, celebrating different periods of styling such as: Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Stick, Eastlake, Romanesque, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Shingle. A Greek Revival home reflected an all American taste in construction. Though the construction had large pillars like Greek styling, and big porches this style could be see throughout the country during its era. The Gothic Revival showcased churches and building with very sharp edges and interesting detail much like the Gothic structures in Europe. The Italianate Period boasted buildings that were big and had large windows and a covered porch around the front. This style was indicative of The Renaissance Period in Italy. Both the Stick and Eastlake styles of homes had large windows and porches or verandas outdoors.

The Romanesque structures were quite popular for businesses. Miniature columns that are clustered along with rock fronts are strong characteristics of these buildings. The Queen Anne is a very lovely Victorian looking structure. Homes in this style were fashioned with turrets on the side of the homes with decorative chimneys and an overall ornate look. The Colonial Revival yielded buildings and homes that much in common with American homes of the Revolution War era. There was a resurgence of American pride as they pushed westward gaining more territory, and a tendency to emulate past American style developed. The Shingle style much like its name boasted homes with subdued shingles to line the exterior of the home instead of siding. These homes were still very large in appearance, yet understated in d'ecor on the exterior, and all indicative of Santa Cruz Architectural Styles.

For a home or structure to be of historical significance in the Santa Cruz area it generally has to be at least fifty years old. This is in keeping step with the requirements of the National Registry, even though it isn't implicitly stated in the California state register. However, there are exceptions and if births of historical figures, major historical events, religious constructions, or cemeteries are involved sometimes the building can be deemed historical having not yet approached fifty years of age.

What school has a better History major, Davis or Santa Cruz?

What school has a better History major, Davis or Santa Cruz?
I got into both but I'm really not excited about living in Davis or Sac. I'm not in love with Santa Cruz either so my main focus is a good History department.

Anyone actually know?

Yeah...don't be excited about going to Davis. the only moderately interesting things that happen there are Picnic Day and Whole Earth Festival. Whole Earth is cool, but they have a similar event in Santa Cruz that's better. UCD's history department is really not as great as most other majors. Best bet is to go with Santa Cruz. And the campus is so beautiful, though it's a pain to get around on.

Nine highly acclaimed original baseball story-songs. Among the characters covered on this cd are Eddie Klepp (first white man to play in the Negro Leagues), Moe Berg (a catcher who also was a US spy just before WWII), Max Patkin (Clown Prince of Baseball), Dock Ellis (who pitched a no hitter under the influence of LSD), Richie Allen (booed by racist Philadelphia fans, he'd write "b-o-o" in the dirt in response), Fred Bonehead Merkle (whose baserunning error cost the NY Giants the pennant in 1908), and Eddie Waitkus (shot by a female stalker, his story was the basis for the movie "The Natural").
