Mary Janes Shoes- a Short 'what-to-wear-when' Guide for an Easy Shopping

I'm a crazy Mary Jane Shopalcoholic and I know I'm not the only one. Being an all time online shopping manic, mostly for shoes (Mary Janes, my favorite), I thought I'd help fellow shopalcoholics to choose a nice pair of Mary Janes with some tips to what to wear. While many online stores sell Mary Jane shoes, (and they clamor for our attention all the blogosphere) there are only a few sites that give us recommendations and suggestions for our likes. So I'd fill the gap here.

With more than enough posts out there on What are Mary Janes? Why are they popular?, let me keep myself away from that bla bla bla and start on how to choose one for your style. The main problem with selecting Mary Janes comes with the variety of styles that they come with. There are more than 10 varieties of Mary Janes and it's not just a matter of selecting one out of this ten. Hundreds of models for each variety and multiply that with the growing number of countless shoe manufacturers. I feel dizzy with numbers!

Mary Janes Selecting Tips

So the best way to select a pair (and not to feel dizzy) that matches your style is to narrow down your search. That is, first narrow down your look out for Mary Janes, say from 10 varieties to 2 or 3. Mary Janes have evolved a lot and now there are more styles and varities in it. Here is a list of them with a short (very short, indeed) 'when to wear' description.

Mary Jane Sneaker - dressy and cute enough for any informal occasion
Chunky High Heels - for girlish ambience and fun, flirty and funky look
Platform - funky sophistication suitable for any formal and informal occasions.
Wedge - show your skinny ankle even thinner and looks clunky
Open toe - modern look suitable for any formal occasions
Pumps - for a lady-like charm and home-like comfort
Sporty - to team with outdoor or sporty workout attires
Loafers- Style and comfort come together
T strap - trendy and adjustable fitness
Mules - for night outs and evening walks
Pointed Toe - for a sexy look (add this with red color)

With each of these styles serving a different purpose, choose any 2 or 3 styles based on your need. Say, you want a "fabulous and fantasy arousing look which will do well in night outs and also in evening walks", choose Mary Jane Mules. Or go for Wedges for a Cosmopolitan look.

I personally prefer Platform Mary Janes, as they go well with both informal and formal events. Also they give me an "extra" height, without costing much on my archs (as greedy as Stilettos). So when you bring your search to 2 or 3, look for sites that show filleted products for these varieties of Mary Janes. I call this vertical searching. Now you don't look for extensive catalog but look for intensive catalogs in your choice of Mary Janes.

In vertical search, look out for various traits like Top Mary Jane Mules, Economic Mary Jane Mules (assuming that you are looking for Mules variety). I do look for low cost Mary Janes, at time, but don't down too low making your purchase void. Here is what happened to me. Once I was searching for some cheap Mary Janes and got fancied by the term "Chinese Mary Jane" costing only some 10$. With no second thought I ordered it. The manufacturer claimed it as the "only one" that a women would like to wear. When I got my them delivered at home, I found it smelling too much of turbentine and too uneasy to wear. Though the product was just a throw away price of some 10$, I'd not ask my readers to test it. So do look for Janes for some considerable rate. Remember that Quality always comes with a price.

Seasonal Dollhouses

As a society, we follow certain seasonal traditions. Spring brings Easter, complete with bunnies, eggs and candy. In the summer, we highlight July 4 in the United States, while other countries have similar mid-summer events. Fall brings the changing of the leaves and Halloween with its spooky graveyards, witches and black cats. In winter, we celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States with turkey dinners, pilgrims and cornucopias. This is followed by Christmas, Hanukkah or another mid-winter celebration. Then comes New Year’s, and the cycle of the year begins anew.

As we decorate and redecorate our homes for the changing traditions throughout the year, many dollhouse enthusiasts have discovered the fun of redecorating their dollhouses the same way. Due to its miniature scale, a dollhouse is the ideal backdrop for extensive redecorating projects that simply are not practical on a full scale in your home. If you have the time and patience for the project, it is relatively simple to perform even elaborate remodels to better suit a particular holiday theme, changing the house back to normal after the season ends.

If you prefer to add small touches rather than performing major remodeling work, seasonal decorations for dollhouses abound. Nothing says “American Thanksgiving tradition” better than a turkey on the table or the stovetop. Adding a few appropriate items in most or all of the dollhouse rooms will give the dollhouse a very festive air. Also, consider changing the dolls’ clothes a bit. Seasonally appropriate clothing, whether a nice dress for Christmas or a costume for Halloween, will add to the realism of the scene.

If you want to do something to mark the holiday with a dollhouse, but you do not want to work with your display piece, another option exists. It is possible to purchase seasonal dollhouse kits or even fully-built seasonal dollhouses. These seasonal dollhouses are a bit over the top, decorated to the hilt for their respective seasons. However, they make a fun addition to your seasonal home decorations and are a nice substitute for fiddling with your display dollhouse.

However you decide to decorate with dollhouses for the changing seasons, remember that your dollhouses are a portion of your overall home décor. Just as it is necessary to retain balance in the interior design of your dollhouse, you should also maintain balance between your dollhouses and the rest of your home decorations. Enjoy your seasonal dollhouse additions but remember not to overdo it. A harmonious blend is the ideal, during the holiday seasons as well as throughout the year.

What season is appropriate to wear a red wedding dress?

My friend is getting married and wants to wear a red wedding dress. Since I had a Christmas wedding, I had also had a red wedding dress. But her plan was to get married in March. I think it's great either way, but I was just wondering if it there was a rule as to what colors to wear for what season or if those rules even matter anymore?

It really doesn't matter. The only time I could see it clashing is if you had an outdoor wedding in the fall. Don't let her spend too much time worrying about what is or isn't acceptable for her wedding. In this day and age people are changing everything they can about weddings, so what colors go with what season and what color your wedding dress is doesn't matter. As long as the wedding is a reflection of her and her husband and she doesn't look back thinking "if only I did that"

You Must Have a Great Life

Sometime ago, I was of the opinion that everyone has the RIGHT to have a great life.
Not anymore.

Now I believe that everyone has the DUTY to have a great life.
I believe it to be a duty because we have all the potentials and the tools to live a great life. And I believe it to be a duty because only by living a great life ourselves, we can enable others to live a great life.

A great life is the minimum that we must aim for. Living a great life must be a goal of everybody.

But what is a great life?

Most of us never bother to contemplate this question. We are happy to “Go with the flow”. Those who think often stop at the first step: equating tons of money with a great life. They believe that having money and everything that money can buy; luxury seaside villa, a brand-new car, a large screen TV, vacations abroad, becoming famous etc. will bring them happiness and fulfilment. Does it?? YES, but partially. Only for some moments of the day. But you will remain “empty” most of the time, because a great life goes well beyond money and materials that money can buy.

So what is a great life?
The answer to this question will differ from person to person, but essentially, there are four elements of a great life. The difference in personal approaches is due to the fact that each individual will have slightly different emphasis on each of these elements. However, the ultimate great life is achieved when

a. these four elements are balanced synergistically
b. we strive everyday to improve in these areas.

These four elements are

1. Material and Physical Needs. You have a body, and probably a family, to feed. You have to manage material needs for self and family, including home, car, clothes etc. Your body needs to be in optimal health state. So to have a great life, you must have VIBRANT HEALTH and FINANCIAL FREEDOM. The financial freedom does not imply plenty of money, but enough money to meet your requirements and rid your mind of worries. Going a step further, an “Abundance Mindset” is more important than actual “quantity” of money. A mindset that is happy with the available material possessions, offers gratitude, and hopes for better has the real financial freedom. Similarly, maintaining a vibrant health is essential to a great life. Vibrant health does not stop at “absence of disease”; rather it is a state where you feel energetic, enthusiastic, active and ready to “Just Do It”, whenever there is a physical or mental challenge or positive activity.

2. Intellectual Fulfilments. We as human, desire to grow intellectually. We need to learn so that our “intellect” self feels growing. Growing intellectually is the key to human progress. And you grow intellectually when you learn or teach, when you dream, when you set and achieve goals, when you use your knowledge as well as imaginations to find answers. Reading, discussing, problem solving, project completion, learning new skills etc are essential for our intellectual fulfilment.

3. Emotional Aspect. To have a great life, we need to feel fulfilled emotionally. And for that, we need to love and be loved and recognised. Care, respect and love for your family, relatives, friends and fellow men are the binding fabrics of human society.

4. Spiritual Growth. Whether one believes in religion or in higher intelligence or in universal consciousness or in nothing at all, we as human have certain spiritual needs. This requires us to do something for others for someone who is “bigger than us”. And the best way to do it is to make unconditional contribution, random acts of kindness and to leave a legacy.
So a great life

Must have a great purpose, which is chosen consciously and is aligned with universal principles of good, to grow and maintain a balance in all the four areas.

Some people believe that Great Life lies in great things, great actions and great works only. It is a misconception that stops most of us to be great. Greatness lies in most of the small things and small events. Everyone lives a great life for a small time. Your favourite teacher at school that impacted your life positively lived a great life. Your uncle who supported you when you were emotionally broke lived a great life. Have you read the story of "star thrower," boy. This little boy was found walking on a beach after a storm, throwing starfish back into the ocean so they won't die on the shore. Someone criticizes him for wasting his time, noting there were millions of starfish, and the few he saved won't make much difference. The boy silently bent over, threw a starfish into the surf and replied, "It made a difference for that one."

Just make a difference for someone and continue doing it. You’ll live a great life.

What is a great affordable steak and how do you cook it at home?

I am a great cook but, I always come up short in the steak department. As a kid I never had it and my mother never cooks it. I am trying to feed a family of four and would love to know what affordable great steak can I buy and how to cook it at home? Please help cause Im hungry.

The best cuts of meat are definitely the loin areas. These are your porterhouses and your filet mignons. These steaks are by far the most tasty and are by far the most expensive. If you really want the true steak experience, buy about three or four porterhouse steaks and slow cook them on the grill about 10 minutes at a very low heat (120-150 degrees). Do not char the outsides and keep the insides pink. You steak will come out delicious.
If you want a first time, cheaper steak experience, try buying a bone-in T-bone or NY strip. though still cut from the same area, it is a smaller steak and will cost you less. No matter what you choose, do not, i reapeat, do not overcook your steak. You will end up with a chewy, charred piece of meat. You might as well have purchased carne asada or beef jerky if you overcook it. Keep it rare and make some baked potatos and a nice bottle of merlot to compliment the taste.
