Gladiator sandals have suddenly invaded the fashion republic. The footwear industry gave in to this craze since it was declared a summer must-have a few years ago. Dressed to kill, the average life span of a gladiator is 27 years and exceptional ones live past 30 years. A typical gladiator fights 3 times a year and each would last about 10-15 minutes. Only a lucky few survive more than 10 games. Even if each game is their last; they can still taste glory and be heroes for a fight well done. Freedom is even granted for those who can survive for 3 to 5 years.

The earliest known Roman gladiatorial combat was held for a funeral rite in 264 BC. Marcus and Decimus, to honor the spirit of their dead father, Junius Brutus, have commanded 3 pairs of gladiators to fight one another. This tradition was held every 5 years to commemorate the life of the deceased.

As popularity of gladiatorial games grew, more profit is also earned by their trainers and owners. Politicians sponsor these games in the hope of gaining popularity and favor from voters, who nonetheless are more pleased with spectacular fights. Romans indulged and spent extravagantly to keep this brutal entertainment at its finest. And for 7 centuries, this spectacle has crowded amphitheaters- a tradition that eventually became one of the defining symbols of Roman culture.

Today, we may not reason with the Roman's lust for blood but amidst the overwhelming gladiatorial combat, they have instilled a rich heritage that is worthy to be treasured and celebrated. Gladiator sandals are just one of those symbols reminding us that values depicted by gladiators such as courage and strength never goes out of style.

Hi I'm going to NYC and since my small town doesn't have any gladiator sandals, I was wondering where can I get some in NYC? Which stores? H&M? Zara?

Well, once upon a time, years ago, there were many leather shops in Greenwich Village where you could have leather gladiator sandals custom-made to fit your foot right on the spot, while you watched and waited, but, sadly, most, if not all, of those shops are long-gone now, replaced by much more desperately-needed Starbucks and Gap stores.

I did manage to find a couple of such shops left in New York City, in the East Village, so give them a try, because while women's gladiator sandals probably wouldn't be too hard to find, the men's will probably be near impossible, so custom will probably be the way to go for these:

I'm a crazy Mary Jane Shopalcoholic and I know I'm not the only one. Being an all time online shopping manic, mostly for shoes (Mary Janes, my favorite), I thought I'd help fellow shopalcoholics to choose a nice pair of Mary Janes with some tips to what to wear. While many online stores sell Mary Jane shoes, (and they clamor for our attention all the blogosphere) there are only a few sites that give us recommendations and suggestions for our likes. So I'd fill the gap here.

With more than enough posts out there on What are Mary Janes? Why are they popular?, let me keep myself away from that bla bla bla and start on how to choose one for your style. The main problem with selecting Mary Janes comes with the variety of styles that they come with. There are more than 10 varieties of Mary Janes and it's not just a matter of selecting one out of this ten. Hundreds of models for each variety and multiply that with the growing number of countless shoe manufacturers. I feel dizzy with numbers!

Mary Janes Selecting Tips

So the best way to select a pair (and not to feel dizzy) that matches your style is to narrow down your search. That is, first narrow down your look out for Mary Janes, say from 10 varieties to 2 or 3. Mary Janes have evolved a lot and now there are more styles and varities in it. Here is a list of them with a short (very short, indeed) 'when to wear' description.

Now you don't look for extensive catalog but look for intensive catalogs in your choice of Mary Janes.

In vertical search, look out for various traits like Top Mary Jane Mules, Economic Mary Jane Mules (assuming that you are looking for Mules variety). I do look for low cost Mary Janes, at time, but don't down too low making your purchase void. Here is what happened to me. Once I was searching for some cheap Mary Janes and got fancied by the term "Chinese Mary Jane" costing only some 10$. With no second thought I ordered it. The manufacturer claimed it as the "only one" that a women would like to wear. When I got my them delivered at home, I found it smelling too much of turbentine and too uneasy to wear. Though the product was just a throw away price of some 10$, I'd not ask my readers to test it. So do look for Janes for some considerable rate. Remember that Quality always comes with a price.

Full Overview of The Mazda Tribute Hybrid

For some reason Japanese manufactured vehicles seem to be some of the better made cars, truck and SUVs on the face of the Earth. We have from this small island country Toyotas and Hondas, and jumping into the SUV fray we now have the Mazda. Mazda Motor Corporation has had marginal success on the international market and they are seriously trying to get into the game. In the 1970s Ford Motor Company secured a controlling stake in the Mazda Corporation and in its own way, the vehicles that were produced by this venture were more interesting and durable.

With Mazda being a Ford subsidiary, Ford is making sure they don't left in the dust in the hippest market in the world: the hybrid SUV. The Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner have had overwhelming success and both companies are now looking to the Mazda Tribute to follow suit. It was built on the same hybrid platform as its predecessors and so far it seems to be living up to its name: a Tribute to the excellence in manufacturing the two companies share.

If you confuse the Tribute and the Escape, however, don't be surprised. The Mazda looks like a revamped Escape but with few tweaks that gives it its own panache. Yes, the exterior and interior and performance features are slightly less than spectacular with the initial product release, falling short of the Escape, but that doesn't make it any less desirable to consumers looking for a sturdy SUV hybrid.

The Mazda Tribute Hybrid's design was based of the regular gasoline version of the vehicle. It has all the basic features of the standard SUV with the same size of the regular Tribute and all the same amenities. The big difference obviously is the engine and power train which runs on electric batteries and gasoline. This makes the SUV environmentally sound and in its own way better than its regular product sibling.

Okay, so the Mercury Mariner, the Ford Escape and the Mazda Tribute side by side look like twins. The should The Escape was the first of the line to be 'born' and the Mariner and Tribute were built off the same design platform with the same single power train structure and interior pieces. There are subtle differences, but you simply say that you are also looking at three of Ford Motor Companies best hybrids, even though the Mariner and Tribute carry the Mercury and Mazda names respectively.

As a hybrid SUV, the Mazda Tribute Hybrid is a very practical and capable sports utility vehicle. When you consider the style, you will find that it is boxier without the newer rounded lines and planes that the other hybrid's in Ford's stable seem to have. The Tribute is a classier and style that has veered away from the sleek and sporty look. The Mazda is the one that looks like it can get down and dirty and hang with the toughest of trucks. Plus, it's a pretty low-key vehicle. Remember, Mazda is just getting into the hybrid business. The drive train makes its fuel-efficient. Mazda made it appealing to everyone in every class.
