Is the Fit Flop a Healthy Alternative to Flip Flop Sandals?

For years podiatrists have been maligning the flip flop sandal as a cause of many common foot problems. In fact, multiple articles have been published about the dangers encountered in the current flip-flop phenomenon. Still, most teenagers and young adults spend more time in flip-flop sandals then any other shoes.

Engineers in the UK launched the “Fit Flop” as a stylish way to strengthen your legs, thighs and “bum” muscles while walking. Surprisingly, these also have been found to help with back pain and do not cause many of the same foot problems as the common flip flop sandal.

Why is this? The “Fit Flop” is engineered much like a “barefoot technology” shoe. It makes the muscles that stabilize the foot work harder and over a period of time can actually strengthen your feet. The common flip flop actually accentuates pronation or the rolling in of your feet which causes fatigue and biomechanical stress in your feet and lower legs. This can lead to overuse injuries like plantar fasciitis and posterior tibial tendonitis which are commonly known as “arch fatigue” or “fallen arches”. Flip flop sandals also increase the stress on the great toe joint and can accelerate Hallux abducto valgus also known as “bunion” formation. This does not happen with the “Fit Flop” because of the varying EVA in the midsole which actually accelerates the propulsion or “toe off” stage of gait, therefore decreasing the stress on the great toe joint. Patients with bunions may never take them off!

The makers of “Fit Flops” actually have some good science behind their claim to increase muscle activation 10-12% and it was verified by an independent lab outside their company. Consumers should be cautioned to wear the “Fit Flops” gradually because of the delayed muscle soreness that occurs just like the beginning of a work out routine.

Is the “Fit Flop” the answer to your workout woes? Can they cure your foot problems? Not even close. No shoe can do that! They can help you burn a few more calories during your daily routine, but cardiac fitness can never be achieved in this manner. Do not forgo your aerobic workout thinking somehow this sandal is the cure for your fitness woes. Maybe a curvier calf muscle or thinner thigh, but just walking in a sandal cannot acheive real fitness.

Can anyone wear a “Fit Flop”? Caution should be taken in picking any shoe. Foot ype is important to evaluate. Many people with significant flexible flat feet or unstable foot type should not wear the “Fit Flop” because the destabilizing technology can actually accentuate the stress on their foot. If you require in-shoe foot orthotics, the “Fit Flop” is probably not for you.

Bottom line: “Fit Flops” are a good alternative to the common flip flop sandal but should be worn gradually and pay attention to any fatigue in your feet! If you have any foot pain or injury, visit your podiatrist and ask their advice on your ability to wear “Fit Flops”.

I only wear socks with sandals if I don't want to wear closed shoes, but yet my toes aren't all that cute-chipped toe nail etc. Or, because I want to, and it's comfortable.

Why You Need Sandals With Heels - or not

There are those of us who like to wear sandals as a comfort shoe, and then there are those of us who wear sandals because they look hot with our outfits and show off our pedicures.  It is possible to combine both worlds - simply add heels!

A heel is a very easy way to dress up a sandal.  If you are looking to wear sandals at work or for a night out on the town, you don't want to grab a pair of beach flip-flops for your tootsies.  No way - it's time to break out the big guns, or as this season's designers would have it, a whimsical and architectural heel that is sure to impress.

Before you start groaning, consider this - heels can be comfortable.  That's right. If you get a wedge heel or a thicker heel, you'll barely notice that your feet are somewhat elevated.  Besides, isn't feeling sexy comfortable for most of us?

If you are wondering where to find the more showy heels of the season, you'll have to look at a higher end sandal.  Besides, you want to make sure that such a lofty perch is built well and will endure the test of the first sidewalk crack it gets stuck in!

If it is a night out on the town and some dancing that you are looking for, make sure to stick to something with a thicker heel as it isn't good for your feet to be using killer dance moves on thin heels.  Save these for the dinners out and the patio after.    If you plan to be popping up a storm in your sandals, make sure that they have a back strap to hold them in place. 

If you are looking to pick up a higher end sandal and can't quite afford the $600-$800 range of the top name brands, don't fret!  Shoes may not all be created equal, but sandals are much harder to create differently from one another.  For this reason, a sandal costing $75 to $200 isn't really going to be that much different from the extremely high end ones - we're willing to bet you can't even figure out the difference between the two if they are put side by side with labels ripped off.  Besides, who exactly is going to see the label that your soles are covering up?  Exactly; nobody is going to know the difference!

Getting back to the architectural heel.  What exactly does this mean?  It means a heel with cutouts, a heel with stature - a heel that looks like the Guggenheim rather than the Met.  A heel that looks… designed.  Sandals have become the hot item rather than handbags, and its all about the heel on the sandal when it comes to the dressup and salivation factor.  The more structured, the better.

If you can't possibly envisage a heel on your sandal, there is hope for you.  There are gladiator sandals with strappy good looks, and flat sandals with embellishments that will have you tiptoeing through the tulips just to pick a pair off the proverbial vine.  While structured heels may be the it thing, those of you with heelphobia are not completely lost in this season's landscape.

Shoes are something we wear in the developed world as a standard day to day piece of our armoury, the shoe was first designed to protect our feet from the surroundings however they have since evolved into an extension of the self with many people choosing their footwear as a means of projecting their personalities to those around them. In warmer climates the more common shoe would be that of the flip flop however in cooler climates such as the United Kingdom you will find harder shoes such as boots and heeled ladies shoes. Ladies shoes have evolved to more than protection of the feet; they are now craved for by many shoppers looking for the exact shoe to match an outfit.

Ladies shoes typically have heels in a range of sizes; however it is not uncommon for a ladies shoe to be flat and without a heel. The design of the ladies shoe varies hugely across cultures, whilst the cost can also fluctuate massively. Ladies shoes are available in every style from high heels to specialist footwear such as mountain climbing boots and ski boots. The materials used can vary from fully recycled products to wooden shoes such as Cloggs, reigning from Holland.

There are many different variants of footwear labelled as ladies shoes, high heels are shoes with a heel of 2” or higher, these are often considered to have a higher sex appeal than most shoes and as a result are commonly worn during formal occasions or social outings. Kitten heels are ladies shoes with a heel however this hole is less than 2” in height, usually a heel thinner than the shoe itself.

Ladies shoes also come in the form of sneakers and trainers, athletic shoes that are used as a communication of fashion whilst often being worn for sports and athletics too. When originally introduced these ladies shoes were designed for comfort during sports and cardiovascular activities however they have almost split into 2 categories, fashion and sports attire.

Other styles of ladies shoes include wedge sandals, mules, sling backs, espadrilles and pumps. This range of ladies shoes are most commonly worn in warmer climates or during the summer. Wedge sandals are the same as summer sandals however their ankle piece is higher as if you’re wearing a high heeled shoe. The mule shaped ladies shoes are like slippers in that they are backless and offer no fitting around the heel. Slingbacks are ladies shoes with a heel that is unsecured, the strap behind the heel can be moved to allow the shoe to come off rather than it be strapped over the top of the foot.

Espadrilles are less commonly worn than other ladies shoes, or at least in the UK I’ve rarely seen them. They are casual and flat or high-heeled with lots of style ladies shoes, originating in the Pyrenees. They are usually made with a rubber sole and a hessian wrap around the wedge. The upper pieces are often cotton or canvas, commonly a bright pattern for the summer months.

The most recently popular pump is a ladies shoe which came back into fashion in the last 2 years, named for their similarity of ballerina pumps in that they’re very flat and expose much of the foot. They are fantastic for warm weather wear; however they are comfortable to wear all year around.

Girls Looking for Love - How to Find Local Single Women

Ive always tried to avoid getting involved in the hunt, so to speak. When youre single and that feeling of loneliness is slowly but surely creeping in, thats when you have to put your foot down and realize that there is a woman out there for you. But the more you go out hunting for her, the more illusive shell get, and the more you will attract exactly what you dont want.

We tend to meet people within our social world of relevance. But sometimes, you have to venture out just a tad further to find what youre looking for. Besides that, a little bit of adventure thats out of the ordinary isnt going to kill you. Men are creatures of habit in that we have the tendency to meet women through people that we know. Im sure that its happened that way for you just like it has with me.

The problem with that is one of two things usually happens before you indeed do find the right "hook-up." But what happens when he runs out of "inventory" for you to take on that initial "test drive?" Theres the first downside that usually is part of the equation.

The second pitfall is that nine times out of ten, you usually wind up talking to someone, maybe even going out on a date with them once, only to find out that it was a flop. The personalities didnt mix and there was no chance at any chemistry developing. I say developing only because chemistry comes in two different packages. There is immediate chemistry where there are fireworks from the minute you start talking. Then there is that chemistry that takes a few encounters to develop with that woman.

The one plus about meeting women through people you know is that its more of a warmer environment for you versus the venturing out philosophy. When you venture outside of your "social network", youre doing what I compare to cold calling in the sales world. You approach women, not knowing anything about them, whereas when youre hooked up by virtue of your friends, most of the time they know a little bit about her to give you some description or possibly history. The screening process has been done so you dont have to go through that ordeal.

Sometimes, you may wind up dating someone who is involved or has a boyfriend. She may be in a relationship, but she may not be happy, so give her a reason to think that she could be happier with you. But just remember, never let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird butt. In other words, be able to back up your claims at being better than what she has.
