The Nike Dunk - Shoes Designed for Basketball

Nike, Inc. launched the Nike Dunks in 1985 as a line of product positioned side by side the Nike Terminator. The plan was to bend the basketball shoe market a bit introducing colors instead of the usual white pair with black swoosh. They had their eye on the target and Nike knew what to do.

Designed for basketball

The Nike Dunks were really intended for the basketball players. Nike had the shoes designed with a lower profile outer sole compared to the previous shoes. The objective was to offer shoes that are lighter in weight, closer to ground, and equipped with better paneling for improved performance. The enhancements were made so that the player can attain optimum pivoting and blocking.

To market the new line, a program called the College Colors was launched in various colleges and universities. Selected schools were signed up for exclusive Nike sponsorship. The jerseys were to be matched with the Dunks that will be provided for by Nike.

The eight schools that were chosen for the Dunks program included University of Maryland, St. John’s University, Syracuse University, Villanova University, University of Iowa, University of Kentucky, University of Michigan, and University of Nevada.

The production for the Nike Dunks was put on hold for some time until Nike re-launched the line in 1998.  The new Dunks had tongues made of nylon and arch support – those were the signature styles that differentiate them from the present releases. The shoes exhibited the classic university colors but new colors were also released.

Unexpected niche in skateboarding

In the early 2000s, the skateboarding market started to peak. Although many skaters already started to use the Dunks even during the 90s, it wasn’t until 2002 that Nike launched the Nike Dunk SB, which targets the skateboarders.

Skaters or riders got attracted to the Dunks because of the same features that made them very good basketball shoes. The skaters needed shoes that will be comfortable for them as they ride their boards. The lower profile design of the outer soles made it possible for them to feel the board better. What made the basketball players move freely and function effectively on the court were the same features that made the skaters perform better with their skateboards.

Sneakerheads and their eye for fashion

Overlapping with the skateboarders, there emerged a pop culture where fashion was focused on the sneakers. This was also hyped up by the hiphop culture, which also started to flourish in the 90s. Sneakerhead refers to a person who collects shoes, which he intends to wear for purposes of fashion and everyday wear. Most often, the shoes of choice are those intended for sports like tennis or basketball.

The return of the Nike Dunks proved to be a successful more by Nike. With the new branch, Nike Dunk SB, the shoe line is now cashing in on their limited editions, which often sell at insane prices. The popularity of these special versions is attributed to the hype that is being given to the Dunks in the Internet.

My little sister is about 3-4 months old and I want to buy her some designer shoes. Like Gucci shoes, Coach or even UGGS or vans. Do they make them for babies that are about 4 months old? if so, please direct me to a website.

Uggs, yes. The rest, no, you have to wait until they are a bit older. About a year.

Casual shoes--perfect alternatives to sneakers

It's so stupid to ask that are sneakers casual shoes? Of course they are.In fact, I'm a self-professed sneaker junky. But more and more lately, I find myself reaching for a pair of casual shoes that look just a tad dressier or a bit more stylish, even when I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt. 

There's an element to sliding on a pair of comfortable, yet fashionable casual shoes, like a pair of mules, ugg boots, or dressy thongs that makes me feel a little more "ready" for what the day might bring. It's the same feeling you get from wearing a chunky silver bracelet, or big hoop earrings ... the feeling that life hasn't worn you down, and that even on a lazy day, you've still got a bit of style. 

Even if you live in jeans, there are so many great casual shoe options for women, the possibilities are endless -- and the choices can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are a few guidelines that can help you make your decision for the day's footwear so much simpler. 

As a general rule, when you're dressing casually, leave the stiletto shoes and overly glitzy footwear at home. Since really high and pointy heels tend to dress up any outfit, instead try a more casual, wide low or chunky higher heel.Ballerina flats, flat loafers and flat sandals are also a great choices in casual women's shoes, and look fantastic with jeans or casual pants, as do many styles of discount ugg boots. 

To help decide which heel is appropriate for the day's attire. Here's a few tips to keep in mind:

First, with a longer pant leg opt for a bit of a heel, even if it's a low one. Letting the hem of your pants drag the floor goes beyond "casual" and can become sloppy.

If there is some company out who harnessed the power of SEO to build up its Internet presence, it has got to be J. Crew as reported on the New York Times. US First-lady-to-be Michelle Obama appeared on the Tonight Show, and was asked by Jay Leno for the budget for that night’s outfit (allusions of Sarah Palin’s alleged spending spree). But the light moment ended in favor of J. Crew, which was thanked by Mrs. Obama. The company seized the casual on-air promotion and sculpted it into a just-add-water type of marketing program.

J. Crew did its own Internet Marketing by snapping up for a price “Michelle Obama†keywords on Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, “built a page on the jcrew.com Web site that promoted her outfit (a $148 pencil skirt, a $148 yellow and brown tank top and a $118 yellow cardigan), and told call-center representatives how to handle queries about Mrs. Obama’s fashion.†J. Crew has refused to divulge the sales amount generated in this campaign, but they are said to be nonetheless “pleased.â€

So what is Search Marketing anyway? Like what J. Crew basically did, it is a style of marketing trying to make the most of the general behavior of most Internet users, which is to look up information on a major search engine such as Google or Yahoo! Search.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), despite the fancy name, is actually one of the many methods for effective search marketing. This so-called natural method concentrates on the techniques need to effectively boost the search engine ranking of your website in the “natural†search engine results. In the example of J. Crew, what the the company was aiming for was its presence in the top 5, or top 10 search engine results whenever people look up keywords related to the new First Lady on the Internet.

But this “natural†scheme asks for the prerequisite that you “optimize†all of your web content (e.g. put the brief keywords you wish to associate with your site all over the text of your site) to spike up the chances of your website appearing within the “Natural†Search results. So-called search engine “spiders†or “web crawlers†are responsible for visiting your site, at least once to make snippets of the most important keywords appearing on your site. Getting Started With Baby Slings

Perhaps you heard about baby slings from a friend in your Le Leche group or read about it in a child-rearing book. You knew as soon as you heard about it that baby slings were perfect for you. So you went online and ordered one and impatiently waited for it to arrive. This was going to really bond you with your newborn in ways you never thought possible!

Finally, it arrives. You remove your sling from the box and start to put it on. Where do these rings go? Is your baby really going to be safe in this piece of material? This doesn't look at all like what you pictured. Suddenly, baby slings go from being your pathway to zen-like bonding with your baby to a piece of cloth with rings that you can't figure out how to put on.

For starters, you're not alone. Many parents that start of with baby slings find them very intimidating at first. Remember, babywearing is an art that takes some time to perfect. You'll need to practice a little bit before you feel confident in your new babywearing skills.

Here are some tips to help you get started with baby slings:

Work To Get A Good Fit

It's very important that your sling fits well. A good fitting sling will reduce fatigue and allow you to carry your child for longer periods of time. If you are using a ring sling, then you can put a heavy doll or baby sized sack of potatoes in the sling and then adjusts the top rails. The top rail is the side of fabric away from your body. You should be able to pull this rail through the ring to tighten up the sling. If you have a padded sling and the padding gets in the way as you try to adjust, then your sling is too big, you need a smaller size.

Positioning The Pouch

You should also adjust your sling so that your baby is above your waist. The higher the better. This reduces strain on your back and shoulder by carrying the baby high. If you can't get the baby to at least your waist, then the sling is too big.

Use a Substitute

By using a heavy doll or small sack of potatoes, you'll have the opportunity to safely adjust your sling without endangering your baby. Also, infants do have a lot of patience for adjusting and jiggling around, so using this substitute will alleviate that problem. Once you are satisfied with the position of your sling and your "baby," you can replace it with your real child and see how everything fits then.

Points To Remember

Your baby can often feel your lack of confidence when you first start using baby slings. Your baby may even act like she hates the sling when she really loves it if worn by an experienced user. The key here is to practice until you are confident in your babywearing skills.

Baby slings are an excellent way for you to bond with your new baby. Just keep practicing until you are comfortable and you'll find it will make all the difference in the world to you and your baby.
